Types of Student Jobs at Residence Life
Resident assistants (RA) are residence hall community leaders. They host programs, oversee the hall for security
and maintenance, and are a resource for students. They live amongst their residents
and are available for questions, concerns or help. RAs perform nightly safety rounds
two to three times each night. The goal of an RA is to be a peer authority in the
residence hall and an example to others through their actions.
Nook concierge work in the Nook Concierge located in the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland (MBS) complex.
The Nook Concierge is open 24 hours, so there are a variety of shifts to fit most
students' schedules. The main purpose of the role is to provide customer service by
answering phones and assisting residents with work orders, lockouts and other questions.
Nook concierge assist with managing keys, maintaining records about lockouts, checking
out equipment and communicating with RA and RD staff about resident needs. Positions
are open as needed.
Front office assistants help the Central Office staff by answering phones and email, greeting residents when
they enter the office and maintaining files. Office assistants also perform tasks
as assigned. Position open as needed.
Facilities crew are primarily responsible for the minor routine maintenance tasks not requiring skilled
trades mechanics. This includes furniture repair, lighting replacements, cabinet repairs,
vacuum, screens, blinds and other minor repairs. They assist in moving and storage
functions, residence cleaning and grounds keeping. Position open as needed.
Paint crew positions are specifically hired and trained for routine facility painting projects.
Project management is provided by Facilities Services and supervised by Residence
Life Facilities management.
Summer housing assistants provide customer service and front desk support for summer residents and guest housing. This includes light housekeeping to prepare spaces for guests, preparing linen packets, room inspections, as well as overnight and weekend duty. They assist with managing keys, maintaining room records and assisting residents and guests with work orders, lockouts and other questions.
